Weekend = DVD time. : Brick (film) & Kill Your Idols (documentary)
The weekend was rather quiet and relaxing for me... Got around to watching some excellent DVD's I had in the mail.
First up: Kill Your Idols (documentary)
Filmed a few years ago, Kill Your Idols takes a closer look at the post-punk (No-Wave) scene of NYC and a rather recent look at bands that have emerged in a re-defined nYc. (Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, Black Dice, Liars, A.R.E. Weapons and the Gogol Bordello) Footage of DNA and interviews with the Theoretical Girls make the disc worthwhile to watch, but the purpose of the documentary takes a strange turn when the latter provides a platform for current bands to showcase their dislike for other NYC bands.
Second Up: Brick (film)
Highly recommend anyone wanting to watch a film with some substance. The film is murder mystery set in a high-school
setting... a scenario that made me put the rental off for a number of months, but I was pleasantly surprised by the look and feel of picture.
.alamo city rollie.
