America's Game: 1992 Cowboys

Just finished watching the NFL Network's 16th installment of their top 20 superbowl teams of all time...

The #5 Team on their list was the 1992 Dallas Cowboys.

I'm an unapologetic Cowboys fan... so I'm not going weigh in on how great the 1992 Cowboys were. I'm only going to say that the team will be looked back on as one of the top 3 teams of all time. The Nucleus of talent - on Offense/Defense and Coaching Staff - is possibly unparalleled.

Anyhoo... back to the documentary.

I'm really glad that they selected the 92 Cowboys. Of the three Superbowl Champions, the 92 Cowboys were the best of them all. The roster and coaching staff - were stocked with an embarrassment of riches.

Like all the other documentaries they've showcased - 3 people from the Superbowl winning team are selected to speak on their championship team.

For the 92 Cowboys - Troy Aikman, Michael Irving and Ken "I'm now a 49'er" Norton Jr. - were selected to reflect on the championship team.

While I have no complaints about Aikman or Irving.... how in the hell did KEN NORTON get selected to talk about the 92 season?

He was an integral part of the 92 defense... but of all the people on the team!

Three obvious people not selected to talk about the 1992 Championship team are -

1.) Jimmy Johnston
2.) Jerry Jones
3.) Emmitt Smith

Were they busy?

Off the top of my head... here are a couple of players that would have BEEN ALOT better to have on the documentary.

a.) Bill BATES
b.) Nate Newton
c.) Jay Novacek
d.) Darren Woodson
e.) Charles HALEY!

Other than that... it was a groovy documentary.

Radical NY!

Over the weekend... I drove out to Austin, TX to check out the art exhibition "Revolt NY!". A collection of Art from the New York City - Art Scene, circa 1974 - 1984.

It was a little weird driving out to Austin by myself... I can't recall the last time I dragged myself out of the house to immerse myself in something I truly enjoy.

But it was possibly the most rewarding afternoon I've had in recent memory.

The exhibition was AMAZING.

I was able to enjoy all the pieces at my own pace... While its always cool to share you knowledge of a subject with a friend or a loved one... there's nothing like standing across a poster circa 1976 and just appreciate how amazing a billing was without having to explain to someone the importance of Television, the Talking Heads playing with each other on a random nite.

Concert Posters aside... my favorite pieces at the exhibition came from Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

I stood 3 ft. from a Basquiat chalk painting and I couldn't hold back actual tears.

Another highlight of the show was a showing of "Blank Generation"... a documentary that featured live footage of Patti Smith, Blondie, Television, the Ramones, Talking Heads, the Dolls, Richard Hell and the Voidoids and many others...

The documentary is available on DVD and I plan on renting it from Netflix in the near future...

I don't know if the art exhibition is going to be displayed anywhere else this year, but if you get a chance to check it out - please do.

Elliot VS Bathroom Rug

Like many pet owners... I love my dog unconditionally. There are however moments where he can stress my limits of love and last night was no different.

Below is a photo of a Bathroom Rug he opted to destroy.

Um... the Real Superbowl, blog post

Ok... so I was a little premature with proclaiming the Pats as the 2006-7 AFC Champs.

Admittedly... I still can't believe that the Colts galloped back from 18 down to beat the Pats in what was possibly the best 2nd half's of NFL football in recent history.

I'm really happy to see the both the Colts and the Bears make it to the Superbowl. I'm even happier that an African American coach will get to guide a team to a title for the first time in NFL history.

That said...

The Patriots, as we know them... are officially dead.

I know that I went chapter and verse about how I couldn't believe that the Pats were on their way to a 4th Superbowl in 6 years 2 posts ago... but with today's loss to the Colts, the Pats will have to contend with seeing their franchise underpay their team and how they've let key players go in the last 5 years.

Do you beleive in miracles?

AT the close of the 2nd quarter, I got on the phone with my friend Nano and we both complained about how bad the Colts were playing in the first half.

I was putting the finishing touches to a blog post on Super Bowl XLI that started out by saying...
"Barring a miracle comeback... it looks like the Pats and the Bears will square off in a rematch of Superbowl 20."

Prior to hanging up with Nano, I kidded with the idea that it would be halarious if Venatari (sp?) would miss a field goal before they headed into the tunnel....

The score at the time I hung up the phone was 21 to 6.

The Colts stormed out of the locker room and they tied the score up at 21 to 21.... which made me do two things.

1.) Re-Think my previous Superbowl 41 post.
2.) Call Nano to discuss what happened.

I sorta have a rooting interest in the Colts winning. I'm somewhere between wanting to see Manning win and not wanting to hear about how he's a choker.

Anyhoo... the score is now 28, 21 Pats. I plan to now keep a running log of the 4th quarter. Stay tuned for updates.

UPDATE: Ok... I just walked out of the bathroom. I look at the TV and the center for the COLTS just picked up a coughed football at the goal line for the tie.

I just got off the phone with Nano and I got the 411 on the last drive by the Colts. I'm going to staple myself to the fucking couch.

UPDATE: With 8:52 left in the 4th quarter... Tom Brady is deep in Colts territory and it looks like they're going to walk away with at least 3 points.

Peyton is reportedly hurting on the sideline with a busted thumb. I don't know if its broken... but they just replayed him talking to the back up QB and you can easily read his lips saying "... better be ready".

I can't stress how much shit Peyton will get if he doesn't finish this game because of a little boo-boo on his thumb. The only way you're going to get excused from a game like this is if the thumb gets ripped out of your throwing hand.

UPDATE: Peyton rubbed a little dirt on his finger and he took the Colts down the field to tie the game (again) at 31 to 31.

UPDATE: Brady is doing what he always does... with the clock now at 3:49 in the 4th, the Pats sent out their rookie kicker for the go-ahead. Score is 34 to 31. The Legend lives.

UPDATE: The Colts have just punted the ball away with 3:22 left on the clock... The Golden One has to only manage the clock and he will punch another pass to the Superbowl.

Final UPDATE?: The Pats could not run out the clock... 80 yards are and 2:17 seconds are between the Colts going to the Superbowl. The Colts have only 1 time-out.

..... COLTS 38. Pats 34.

There's 1:00 LEFT... He's won superbowls with this much time left on the clock....

Final UPDATE: Tom Brady and the Pats are dead.

Final Fantasy III

When not obssessing about what teams will square off in Superbowl 41, yours trully has been completely captivated by Final Fantasy III for the Nintendo DS.

Picked up a copy over the weekend to pass the time while kicking it at my parents.

I'm of the opinion that Final Fantasy VII is possibly the greatest game ever created... I attemped to play parts 8, 9 and 10... but none of them captured the magic of 7.

More importatnly... none of the following chapters captured the simplicity of part 7. Several friends of mine in College didn't dig the political backdrop of part 7, but I was never a huge fan of slaying dragons and figuring out Mage & Warrior combinations.

Anyhoo... its been a while since I checked out a Final Fantasy and I thought I'd give FFIII a shot. I figured that some simplicity had to be built into the game so it couldn't be all that bad...

I felt a little guilty purchasing the game seeing how I never really beat CONTACT... a game that is beautiful and freakishly hard.

I've dropped about 2 hours of gameplay into the game and I'm loving it! The gameplay is pretty simple... the weaponry makes sense and I'm an hour or so away from making people in my party keepers of White/Black magic, Warriors, Theives or BMF's with a Bow & Arrow.

If you're hard up for a game on the DS and you haven't played a RPG in a while, pick this one up. It rawks vicious wang.

Supabowl XLI

Barring a miracle comeback... it looks like the Pats and the Bears will square off in a rematch of Superbowl 20.

I don't recall how the Pats lost to the Broncos last year in Mile-High... but I'm at a loss for words this evening - watching the New England Patriots.

They're on the verge of making it to their 4th Superbowl in 6 years. In the era of the Salary Cap, the Patriots are a freakishly good.

As a Cowboys fan... it's a little hard to see this team surpass what I thought would be the last Dynasty in the NFL. The Cowboys were one shitty start in a NFC Championship game from winning 4 Straight Superbowls and I think the team from Superbowl 27, is possibly the greatest Superbowl team to ever take the field. The team changed dramatically by their last visit to Superbowl 30...

But its nothing like the dramatic change that the Pats have had in the past 6 years. Aside Brady and Bruschi, I can't think of many other Pats on the team that will have a chance for a 4th ring.

In my lifetime... I saw Bradshaw win his 3rd and 4th ring. I stomached Montana win 4 titles in the 80's... I really thought that Aikman would have a chance to win 5, but too many blows to the head and shitty decisions by Jerry Jones put an end to that.

Seeing Brady and the Pats do what they do... year after year. It's nothing short of amazing.

CBS / AFC Championship Sunday

Like many others this Sunday... I made sure to completely empty my schedule so that I can watch the Pats & Colts square off in the AFC Championship.

I left unusually early from San Benito so that I could catch the game in all its High Definition glory.

As luck would have it... CBS is broadcasting the game this afternoon and their HD feed here in San Antonio sucks. The picture is fine until play begins... then the feed begins to digitize and blot terribly on my Television screen.

WTF? You have one game to broadcast this week CBS. Get your shit straightened out. You're televising the Superbowl in 2 weeks and this shit is not going to fly.

UPDATE: I don't know what CBS just did... but the HD Signal has improved dramatically. One of the broadcast trucks must probably had their tire on a cable....

iPod Hi Fi

While I was out over the weekend, I ran across an Apple iPod Hi-Fi that was put on clearance by Target.

I've been thinking about getting a iPod speaker/docking station for quite some time now... but couldn't justify the cost for any of the current offerings in the iPod speaker systems.

The Apple Hi Fi, caught my attention when it was first announced but it was grossly overpriced at $349...

Scored mine (brand new) for a little under half of that over the weekend and I'm really happy with the purchase.

If you're out and about... swing by the Tech area or your local Target and see if you can pick one up too.

Back from the RGV

Took an an opportunity to visit my parents this weekend... like many of my visits home, I never have enough time to do everything I'd like.

In a nutshell... it went down like this.

Arrived at my parents doorstep @ 10:45PM, Friday nite. The dogs went ape-shit when they saw my parents and I didn't get to bed till 1:00AM.

Woke up Saturday at 7:00AM and spent a good part of my morning at the Honda dealership, while I got an oil change and a tire rotation. While there I got word that there was a mandatory recall on my gas pedal. The head of repairs seemed very excited about changing it... I shrugged him off and listened to my iPod in the waiting room.

I didn't escape the dealership till 11:00AM and my day hadn't really started.

I darted over to a T-Mobile location and payed a ridiculous phone bill. Word to the wise... don't use your celly outside of the U.S. Roaming charges are obscene.

Called my friend Donald and made arrangements to visit him in the afternoon. I got word a week ago that he and his wife are expecting a second child. I'm incredibly excited for both of them. It felt really good to visit them on Saturday night... I only wish I had more time to really hang out and chill with Donald.

I got pulled away from Donald's on Saturday nite so that I could pick up a night stand I purchased from a local furniture store. It wouldn't fit in the back of my car so I had to make arrangements with my father to have him assist me with his truck.

Anyhoo... the next thing I knew, it was 10:00PM and I was back at my parents house. I was really tired and I planned to drive back early on Sunday to watch the NFC/AFC Championship games.

All in all... an awesome weekend. I have a few more updates to sprinkle in, but I'll post about that stuff a little later.

Sent Home Early = Wario / Smooth Moves

When I got word this afternoon that I would get to go home early... I hopped over to my local GameStop and picked up Wario Smooth Moves for the Nintendo Wii.

Initial thoughts : I got a chance to play a Wario game designed for the Nintendo GameBoy Advance a few years ago and I really enjoyed it.

Smooth Moves for the Wii doesn't disappoint. My only complaints to register thus far are:
• It doesn't expand to 16x9 for HD sets. It's 4x3
• I'm flying through the game very quickly... I don't know how much of it I've completed so far but it wouldn't surprise me if I'm a 1/3 through.
• I haven't figured out how to use multiplayer yet...

I think i have to unlock the multiplayer tho'...

Winter Blast 07

Wintery wonderland is scheduled to hit my hometown today. Elements of ice & snow here equate to a full scale city shutdown... no word yet on when we'll get out of work today. I can only assume that it's going I'll be stuck here till close.

If you peep the weather map I've just attached. I'm currently smack in the middle of the city. The whereabouts of my house are in the skyblue.

UPDATE:
Just got word that we're getting to leave work at 2:00PM CST. Which means I should get home safely by 3:00PM.

Rainy Day in San Antonio...

I can't possibly express how stressful my week has been... It's early Saturday evening and I'm still feeling a bit numb from all the crazy shit that occurred this week.

Thankfully the weekend has arrived and if all goes well, I'll be diving head first into a pint of beer by 8:00PM.

Anyhoo... I'm still alive. More to follow tomorrow.

6 days into the new year

So... I'm 6 days into the New Year and I'm already off to a bad start in regards to updating the site. I'm currently saddled up at home because of a nasty chest cold. A chest cold I contracted from my sister this week... She's barely getting around to feeling better and she had to take 2 days off from work this week. I don't have that luxury, so I'm going to have to get as much rest as possible this weekend.

New Years Day

So I spent New Years eve on the south side of downtown San Antonio. I promised a friend of mine that I would attend a house party his parents were throwin' so I dragged my sister along and we saw the barrio come alive on the 31st. It was possibly one of the coolest New Years Eve gatherings i've ever attended.

Werk Week

The work week was very uneventful. I saw a few movies this week... Pirates of the Caribbean 2, Superman Returns and Artie Lange's Beer League to name a few.

All the movies were surprisingly good. Superman Returns especially. I had very low expectations going in and its possibly the best comic book movie I've seen in the past 2 years. Pirates was also pretty cool but a tad too long... The special effects were amazing and like always Brockhimer (sp?) delivers another wonderfully produced picture.

Friday Nite

Had an opportunity to meet some new people last night. My friend & co-worker Travis invited me over to a little house gathering he was having last night. I gladly took him on it... I've been meaning to get out more often... Had a few beers and a lot of laughs.

Elliot

Took Elliot to the groomers this morning. He LOOKS amazing. I wish I had a proper digital camera so that I can share a photo right now. I found a groomer on the outskirts of San Antonio and she's nothing short of amazing. Here's the info in the event you're in the area and your dog could use a groomin'
