Halloween / Gay Friday?

Arrived @ the office this morning in my Revenge of the Nerds - Tri Lambda sweater.

Very unhappy to report that I did not PLACE in the company costume contest.

And even unhappier to report that several people didn't know who or what I was. Pop culture awareness is at an all time low.

Responses I heard today :

• "Delta, Delta, DELTA? "
• "You're Flounder from Animal House right?"
• " I love ANDREW DICE CLAY!"
• " I don't get it Rollie... why are you Elvis Costello"

saved the best for last...

• "OMG... you're John Travolta in Grease right? Where he letters in Track?"

In other news.... I ran across an interesting Online movie short called "GayFriday". It's unapologetically funny.

Halloween around the corner

With Halloween just around the corner... thought I'd post some pictures of my costume this year.

I've decided to go with recreating the Revenge of the Nerds - Tri-Lambda cardigan.

I got the idea a few months ago when I thought about costumes I could easily wear to work. Below are some photos of the construction process.

= Deconstruction of the shield was pretty easy.

= scaling the shield to the sweater took a little while.

= Here's the finished product. I have a few more details to square away but it's pretty much done.

Lapse in Posts

Want to quickly apologize for my lapse in posts... last week was very busy for me at work. The weekend sorta got away from me thanks to me signing up for a Motorcycle Class.

You read correctly. Yours truly signed up for a Motorcycle class. What ever for you ask?

Well... I finally got around to getting a scooter 2 months ago. I took the class so that I could get squared away with a Class M license in the state of Texas.

Happy to report that I passed both the Field and Written exams today. I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little worried after having a terrible start on Saturday.

I had some difficulty adjusting to the small Motorcycles issued to the class. I really don't know what to attribute that to.... It just took a little while before I could figure my way around the touchy clutch and cumbersome shifter.

Anyhoo... I was there from 6:30AM to 5PM both days so I didn't get to do much this weekend.

I did however get to see the Boston Redsox tie things up in the ALCS! (more on that later)

The Lucksmiths : EMO's Austin

Had the privilege of catching one of my all-time favorite artists last week : THE LUCSKMITHS!!!

They're currently in support of a double disc effort called "Spring a Leak" - a collection of B-sides, Covers, Demos and Rarities.
The Show

The billing was a little awkward. There was a strange act that opened the night called : the Narrow Escapes.

Their set concluded with the leadsinger stripping to his underwear - and putting on a Dragon mask to sing the last song.

An antic that I'm always down for... its however a little awkward to see before you catch the Lucksmiths.

The second band : Our Solar System - was painful to watch. They were painful to hear. I can't believe that I'm getting upset again just thinking about them.

They did however make stuffed octopus creatures for sale. I wanted to get one for Elliot but their music was so bad that I wouldn't help that band out in any way.

The Third band : Yellow Fever - were really good. They were a three piece that had very stripped down tunes. I picked up their self-made EP and 7". I just read that they're going to be in town (San Antonio) next week for a "John Peel - tribute" (?) show of some sort. I'll be in attendance again to see em.

The Lucksmiths
closed: They played a lot of stuff from the last two records and they played a number of new songs. I took some photos and even took some camera phone video footage that I'll upload at some point to youtube/googlevideo or somethin'.

Post Show
: So... i went back to my car and found a mound of cashew shells in the spot where my car should be. I got towed because of some silly "parking rule" and had to make arrangements to have a Cab take me out to the booneys to fetch my car.

I didn't get home until 4:00am... but can honestly say that it was well worth it.
