Worst Super Bowl logo ever?

Seriously... how can one argue that this logo isn't one of the worst Super Bowl logos to ever come out?

The Mets make me blue...

Despite having a 7 game lead with 13 games left in the regular season... the NY Mets will not advance to the NLDS.

A Mets team that was in first place for 159 consecutive regular season games.

While I'm fairly certain that they would have been bounced out before reaching the Series, its seeing the team collapse in the fashion they did that upsets me to no end.

Cowboy Training Camp 2007

Went down to the San Antonio Alamodome on Sunday to watch the Dallas Cowboys practice for the upcoming 2007 season.

I had hoped to get my dad up here this week so that we could go together... but he's back at home waiting for me' mom to return from her trip to Mexico City.

The practice, itself was pretty underwhelming... highlight of the afternoon was ten thousand or so people in attendance breaking into a "Eagles SUCK" chant.

Random Monday thoughts

Scott Baio. Yes, that Scott Baio
Set my DVR to record a number of VH1 "Classic Album" documentaries, so that I could do a little write up about some of their selections.

This subject is taking a back seat, due to a show that debuted over the weekend called "Scott Baio, 45 and Single".

For those of you not in the know, Scott Baio is a secret indulgence of mine. Thanks to shows like 'Happy Days' and 'Charles in Charge' - I grew up with Baio always being on my television.

I even attempted a few years ago, to get Scott Baio to become an honorary member of my Scooter Club. I couldn't garner enough support from my group to follow through with an invite tho'.

Anyhoo, I set my DVR to record the season premiere this evening. I'll post thoughts on the show later this week.

The Cubs
When I wasn't watching documentaries on the Sex Pistols, Fleetwood Mac and Nirvana this evening - I took in a few innings of the Cubs & Giants.

The Cubs have been getting a lot of dap in recent weeks because of a staggering 15 wins in 19 games.

Tuned in to see the Cubs trailing the Giants by 1 run, with 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th with no one on base. A few clutch hits later - the Cubs won their 16th game with a 3-2 score.

It's a little early to weigh on the Cubs chances for the post season. But it doesn't hurt to win games the way they did tonight. I called my father afterwards and he (a life long cub fan) is beginning to take a shine to Piniella's boys.

The Spanish Prisoner

I forget what channel it was over the weekend, Showtime or Cinimax, but they're showing one of my favorite movies of all time - this week : The Spanish Prisoner.

I happened to record a showing of it in HD and can't wait to carve out 2 hours to catch it.

Flight of the Concords

Is anyone else of the opinion that this show would be a lot better if it were 15 minutes long? Anyone?

Another Simpson Avatar Submission

Received another Simpson Avatar submission by email this afternoon. This one from my friend Heather. Of the three - this one is pretty close to what I look like... well, except for the lips. I don't have A-Rod, Jetter-ass-kissin' lips.

My friend Heather felt compelled to submit a avatar with corrected lips...

When Saturday's get slow, put $ on the Sox

When my friend Nano informed me that he would be in Vegas for the weekend... not only did I wish him safe trip, I also asked that he lay a little cash on today's Red Sox game.

If all goes well, Dice K. should deliver an easy win for me @ home.

I don't know if there's any places in San Antonio that will televise the game. I think a place by the name of "Dave n' Busters" can come through for me, but I'm not too thrilled about watching the game there.

More on this later.

Update:

Just got back in from watching the game. After calling 6 sports bars in the city of San Antonio, I settled on a place (on the other side of town) called "FATSOS Sports Garden".

It's the one of two places in San Antonio with a MLB Extra Innings package. I called my friend Nano in Vegas to confirm the quality of the place... he gave it the thumbs up so I headed out.

The place was practically empty. I was thrilled to hear Rem Dog's voice when I walked in. Two other Sox fans had a large screen TV set to the game and they turned the volume up so that we could hear the NESN broadcast.

Both guys were from Massachusetts, so we sat back and cracked jokes about the Sox for the entire nite.

As for the bar. The place is pretty cool. I've never been in on a busy evening so I'd hate to weigh in on proper review of the place.

It's very sports centric tho'. If you're in town and you're hoping to watch a game that isn't televised here - Fatsos may be the only place to go.

OH! before I forget :

• Sox Won
• I made a few bucks off tonights game.
• Dice K pitched like ass.
• The bottom of the Red Sox order showed up big.
• Tek hit a BOMB in the bottom of the sixth (I think)
• Some kid may have a broken nose because of the mentioned home run.
• Yankees Suck

Go Spurs Go?

I've neglected to weigh in on a little something called the NBA Finals...

On my way into work this morning - I walked by the AT&T center and took these photos...

While many around me are happy to see the Spurs in the NBA Finals - I wish that the city wouldn't succumb to temporary-gaudy-structures.

Do's and Don'ts of Logos

The London 2012 games launched their logo today and its quite possibly the worst event-branding-logo that I have ever seen.

Update:

In in a matter of minutes... i just ran across a fabulous spoof.

NBA All*STAR nite

For the first time in maybe 8 or so years... I went out of my way to stay in and in catch the NBA All*Star 3-Point/Slamdunk competition.

I've never been a die-hard NBA fan. I watched a lot of basketball growing up, but it was hard not to watch the Celtics, the Lakers, the Bad Boy Pistons then Jordan in the 90's.... the NBA player strike / holdout / whatever - made me tune out and I never could get back into it.

But I digress...

Just finished watching a Miami Heat player (whose name I already forgot) win the three point contest with a final score of 24 points.

As impressive as that is... I recall tuning in the night Craig Hodges (Chicago Bull) dropped a record 25 points in the three point competition. I also recall watching him drop a record 19 straight three point shots.

Hoping to see lightning hit twice tonight, I'm saddened to report that neither record fell tonight.

I am however happy to see the shooting contest be broken down into 2 rounds of shooting. I don't recall how many there was before... but the new format is really nice.

UPDATE : Just occurred to me that this is the first Basketball action that I've seen in HD. It's quite possibly the best sport to watch in High Definition. I can't believe that I'm actually enjoying the Slam Dunk contest.

America's Game: 1992 Cowboys

Just finished watching the NFL Network's 16th installment of their top 20 superbowl teams of all time...

The #5 Team on their list was the 1992 Dallas Cowboys.

I'm an unapologetic Cowboys fan... so I'm not going weigh in on how great the 1992 Cowboys were. I'm only going to say that the team will be looked back on as one of the top 3 teams of all time. The Nucleus of talent - on Offense/Defense and Coaching Staff - is possibly unparalleled.

Anyhoo... back to the documentary.

I'm really glad that they selected the 92 Cowboys. Of the three Superbowl Champions, the 92 Cowboys were the best of them all. The roster and coaching staff - were stocked with an embarrassment of riches.

Like all the other documentaries they've showcased - 3 people from the Superbowl winning team are selected to speak on their championship team.

For the 92 Cowboys - Troy Aikman, Michael Irving and Ken "I'm now a 49'er" Norton Jr. - were selected to reflect on the championship team.

While I have no complaints about Aikman or Irving.... how in the hell did KEN NORTON get selected to talk about the 92 season?

He was an integral part of the 92 defense... but of all the people on the team!

Three obvious people not selected to talk about the 1992 Championship team are -

1.) Jimmy Johnston
2.) Jerry Jones
3.) Emmitt Smith

Were they busy?

Off the top of my head... here are a couple of players that would have BEEN ALOT better to have on the documentary.

a.) Bill BATES
b.) Nate Newton
c.) Jay Novacek
d.) Darren Woodson
e.) Charles HALEY!

Other than that... it was a groovy documentary.

Um... the Real Superbowl, blog post

Ok... so I was a little premature with proclaiming the Pats as the 2006-7 AFC Champs.

Admittedly... I still can't believe that the Colts galloped back from 18 down to beat the Pats in what was possibly the best 2nd half's of NFL football in recent history.

I'm really happy to see the both the Colts and the Bears make it to the Superbowl. I'm even happier that an African American coach will get to guide a team to a title for the first time in NFL history.

That said...

The Patriots, as we know them... are officially dead.

I know that I went chapter and verse about how I couldn't believe that the Pats were on their way to a 4th Superbowl in 6 years 2 posts ago... but with today's loss to the Colts, the Pats will have to contend with seeing their franchise underpay their team and how they've let key players go in the last 5 years.

Do you beleive in miracles?

AT the close of the 2nd quarter, I got on the phone with my friend Nano and we both complained about how bad the Colts were playing in the first half.

I was putting the finishing touches to a blog post on Super Bowl XLI that started out by saying...
"Barring a miracle comeback... it looks like the Pats and the Bears will square off in a rematch of Superbowl 20."

Prior to hanging up with Nano, I kidded with the idea that it would be halarious if Venatari (sp?) would miss a field goal before they headed into the tunnel....

The score at the time I hung up the phone was 21 to 6.

The Colts stormed out of the locker room and they tied the score up at 21 to 21.... which made me do two things.

1.) Re-Think my previous Superbowl 41 post.
2.) Call Nano to discuss what happened.

I sorta have a rooting interest in the Colts winning. I'm somewhere between wanting to see Manning win and not wanting to hear about how he's a choker.

Anyhoo... the score is now 28, 21 Pats. I plan to now keep a running log of the 4th quarter. Stay tuned for updates.

UPDATE: Ok... I just walked out of the bathroom. I look at the TV and the center for the COLTS just picked up a coughed football at the goal line for the tie.

I just got off the phone with Nano and I got the 411 on the last drive by the Colts. I'm going to staple myself to the fucking couch.

UPDATE: With 8:52 left in the 4th quarter... Tom Brady is deep in Colts territory and it looks like they're going to walk away with at least 3 points.

Peyton is reportedly hurting on the sideline with a busted thumb. I don't know if its broken... but they just replayed him talking to the back up QB and you can easily read his lips saying "... better be ready".

I can't stress how much shit Peyton will get if he doesn't finish this game because of a little boo-boo on his thumb. The only way you're going to get excused from a game like this is if the thumb gets ripped out of your throwing hand.

UPDATE: Peyton rubbed a little dirt on his finger and he took the Colts down the field to tie the game (again) at 31 to 31.

UPDATE: Brady is doing what he always does... with the clock now at 3:49 in the 4th, the Pats sent out their rookie kicker for the go-ahead. Score is 34 to 31. The Legend lives.

UPDATE: The Colts have just punted the ball away with 3:22 left on the clock... The Golden One has to only manage the clock and he will punch another pass to the Superbowl.

Final UPDATE?: The Pats could not run out the clock... 80 yards are and 2:17 seconds are between the Colts going to the Superbowl. The Colts have only 1 time-out.

..... COLTS 38. Pats 34.

There's 1:00 LEFT... He's won superbowls with this much time left on the clock....

Final UPDATE: Tom Brady and the Pats are dead.

Supabowl XLI

Barring a miracle comeback... it looks like the Pats and the Bears will square off in a rematch of Superbowl 20.

I don't recall how the Pats lost to the Broncos last year in Mile-High... but I'm at a loss for words this evening - watching the New England Patriots.

They're on the verge of making it to their 4th Superbowl in 6 years. In the era of the Salary Cap, the Patriots are a freakishly good.

As a Cowboys fan... it's a little hard to see this team surpass what I thought would be the last Dynasty in the NFL. The Cowboys were one shitty start in a NFC Championship game from winning 4 Straight Superbowls and I think the team from Superbowl 27, is possibly the greatest Superbowl team to ever take the field. The team changed dramatically by their last visit to Superbowl 30...

But its nothing like the dramatic change that the Pats have had in the past 6 years. Aside Brady and Bruschi, I can't think of many other Pats on the team that will have a chance for a 4th ring.

In my lifetime... I saw Bradshaw win his 3rd and 4th ring. I stomached Montana win 4 titles in the 80's... I really thought that Aikman would have a chance to win 5, but too many blows to the head and shitty decisions by Jerry Jones put an end to that.

Seeing Brady and the Pats do what they do... year after year. It's nothing short of amazing.

CBS / AFC Championship Sunday

Like many others this Sunday... I made sure to completely empty my schedule so that I can watch the Pats & Colts square off in the AFC Championship.

I left unusually early from San Benito so that I could catch the game in all its High Definition glory.

As luck would have it... CBS is broadcasting the game this afternoon and their HD feed here in San Antonio sucks. The picture is fine until play begins... then the feed begins to digitize and blot terribly on my Television screen.

WTF? You have one game to broadcast this week CBS. Get your shit straightened out. You're televising the Superbowl in 2 weeks and this shit is not going to fly.

UPDATE: I don't know what CBS just did... but the HD Signal has improved dramatically. One of the broadcast trucks must probably had their tire on a cable....
