Chimeracon (sp?)

Received an invite over the weekend to attend an event in town called Chimeracon. A comic-con of sorts but with a focus put on board games. Well... I should limit it to board games. There's a number of games at the event... video games, card games, board games and the games that require statues, little tanks, tables that have terrain like environments.

My friend Robert is really into board games and he told me about Indie games that are made available at these events. He picked one up that goes by the name of "Smugglers of the Galaxy"... a game we got to actually break out at the event and play with a few people who also attended the event.

The con was sorta small in comparison to the Comic Con's I've been to in Detroit - but it was fun nonetheless. I'd go to another one if it were guaranteed to be bigger.

Stuff White People Like

Ran across this blog this evening while checking out the Rovers message board. I've gone through about 24 entries and they're all pretty spot on. ;)

Quality Programing before Bed

Why is it that when you really need to get some sleep... something worth while is on TV?

After picking up a bottle of water from the front desk I came back to my room to see an episode of Seinfeld on. Of all the fucking episodes... which one are they showing?

The Contest

I rarely watch Seinfeld on syndication. Its sorta on every channel and its a challenge sometimes to find something that isn't a Sienfeld rerun some nights.

Anyhoo... the Master of My Domain episodes is one of my faves. Its on and I desperately need to get some sleep.

ugh... in the Twin City.

Walk on the Wild Side

As many of you know... my body is a temple.

I start most of my days skipping out on lunch, in favor of sleeping in. I've been getting a lot more sleep in recent nights on account of not having to take Elliot on walks - so I've been getting up early and dorking around the hotel lobby in the morning - reading free papers.

One of the perks from staying at the Marriott (sp?) is getting your hands on some free breaky.

I've been hitting up cereals with some consistency, but ran across these Jimmy Dean's things today. They sorta work like popcorn bags. You throw em in the microwave for 45 seconds - then boom. They're done.

Mine popped in the microwave and I got a cheezy money shot all over the unit downstairs. My stomach has been upset all day and I'm blaming it squarely on this biscuit.

Weeds Season 3

Just occurred to me that the third season of Weeds kicks off Monday night... I've read a number of articles regarding actors whom are going to do some guest spots this season. I'm hoping that the show doesn't loose its way after broadcasting one of the greatest seasons I've ever seen.

Anyhoo... if you have Showtime - tune in.

R.I.P. Tony Wilson

Founder of Factory Records - Tony Wilson - died yesterday, due to Kidney Cancer complications...

While I was far to young to truly appreciate his impact on music in the late seventies and early 80's - His contributions to music and and art are unparalleled.

You will be truly missed Tony.

Random Tuesday Thoughts

Alan Rickman = Elliot Smith
Can someone seriously not tell me why someone isn't asking Alan Rickman to play Elliot Smith in a proper film?

Below is a photo of him as "Snape".

Below is a photo of Elliot Smith...

Who do you gotta know to make something like this happen?

Random Monday thoughts

Scott Baio. Yes, that Scott Baio
Set my DVR to record a number of VH1 "Classic Album" documentaries, so that I could do a little write up about some of their selections.

This subject is taking a back seat, due to a show that debuted over the weekend called "Scott Baio, 45 and Single".

For those of you not in the know, Scott Baio is a secret indulgence of mine. Thanks to shows like 'Happy Days' and 'Charles in Charge' - I grew up with Baio always being on my television.

I even attempted a few years ago, to get Scott Baio to become an honorary member of my Scooter Club. I couldn't garner enough support from my group to follow through with an invite tho'.

Anyhoo, I set my DVR to record the season premiere this evening. I'll post thoughts on the show later this week.

The Cubs
When I wasn't watching documentaries on the Sex Pistols, Fleetwood Mac and Nirvana this evening - I took in a few innings of the Cubs & Giants.

The Cubs have been getting a lot of dap in recent weeks because of a staggering 15 wins in 19 games.

Tuned in to see the Cubs trailing the Giants by 1 run, with 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th with no one on base. A few clutch hits later - the Cubs won their 16th game with a 3-2 score.

It's a little early to weigh on the Cubs chances for the post season. But it doesn't hurt to win games the way they did tonight. I called my father afterwards and he (a life long cub fan) is beginning to take a shine to Piniella's boys.

The Spanish Prisoner

I forget what channel it was over the weekend, Showtime or Cinimax, but they're showing one of my favorite movies of all time - this week : The Spanish Prisoner.

I happened to record a showing of it in HD and can't wait to carve out 2 hours to catch it.

Flight of the Concords

Is anyone else of the opinion that this show would be a lot better if it were 15 minutes long? Anyone?

Another Simpson Avatar Submission

Received another Simpson Avatar submission by email this afternoon. This one from my friend Heather. Of the three - this one is pretty close to what I look like... well, except for the lips. I don't have A-Rod, Jetter-ass-kissin' lips.

My friend Heather felt compelled to submit a avatar with corrected lips...

Soprano's Series Finale

The Sopranos season finale aired this evening and I wanted to quickly weigh in on the ending.

For those who watched it (spoiler alert), the final scene was rather interesting. Tony agreed to meet his family (wife & children) for dinner at a greasy spoon.

Tony arrives early - selects a Journey song on the diner jukebox and awaits his family to join him.
The closing minutes of the show are incredibly tense with Tony looking up every time the diner door opens only to find that its not his wife or children arriving, but suspicious people whom could fit the profile of a "hired hit".

A feeling that Tony would have to endure for the remainder of his life.

The show closes with Medow opening the diner door and the show cutting to black.

I'm of the opinion that nothing happens to Tony. There's moments on screen where a director can make any audience member feel what a character is experiencing.

Example : When you see Psycho for the first time... the shower scene is incredible because we can all relate to being vulnerable while bathing.

The tense feeling at the end of the Sopranos was no different. David Chase went to great lengths to comment on our current state of "fear".

Not knowing whom or what will be next - is what we were able to experience.

Hidden Palms

Tuned into the series premier of Hidden Palms this evening.

I'm a little unsure if I'm going to hang for the entire season or not.
The production is really bad and it felt like the pilot went out of its way to find spots to soundtrack 20 or so songs.

Its going to be a long summer... and I need to desperately replenish my Netflix que.

It BURNS!

With the Summer months creeping around the corner... I'm finding it harder and harder to not justify the purchase of this windshield "sun blocker".

Not only would it help with the diabolical heat we get in San Antonio... I would also have the opportunity to flash Dracula.

Safe Happens?

Anyone else have a hard time watching Jetta "safe happens" commercials?

Let me first say that I prefer seeing the staged crashes over a Slash shredding out on a promotional First Act axe... (getting a free $200 guitar is supposed to sway whom exactly?)

I just get an uneasy feeling watching them.

Which is strange seeing how I've never been in a car accident before.

I think I dislike it because it find the staged accidents to be a bit disingenuous...

Anyhoo, just venting.
